Andreja Umek Venturini graduated in 1988 at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. She was awarded her Ph.D. degree in 1996 at the same Faculty. In 1993 she started as a young researcher at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana.
Presently she is employed at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of Slovenia, the Office for International Cooperation and European Affairs. She is responsible for Slovenian participation in the European research programmes, in particular in the 7th Framework Programme. From this point she is nominated as a delegate of Slovenia to the ICTC FP7 at the DG Information Society and Media, European Commission. She is also nominated as a delegate of Slovenia to the Ideas FP7 Committee and as a Slovenian member to the Helsinki group on Women and Science at the DG Research, European Commission.
In 2001 the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology established the National Committee for Promotion of Role of Women in Science. The National Committee is an advisory body to the Ministry and Andreja Umek Venturini acts as the secretary to this Committee.
